Doors to Nowhere

When building fall into ruin or get abandoned, they usually end up getting squatted for a time.  Once the neighborhood complains enough, the city gets involved and blocks off the physical entries to the buildings. In some cases, for historical reasons, the facade of the building stands while the building is gutted and hauled away.  Here are some doors from Poblenou where the true entrance has been blocked, but the door still stands.

Man Loves ???

I love to see what people are posting on the doors in Barcelona.  I can't figure out if this was a man giving his heart to the environment instead of a woman or something else entirely.

I like the overall messiness of this.

The Cyclists

I passed by this pair of cyclists on Calle Petritxol in the Gothic.  I waved, but in their hurry, they could not be bothered.  Wonder if they're heading off to work on this fine morning.

Empty

This is what it looks like in Barcelona when a building gets removed.  It's just an empty lot.  This particular one is found in Barceloneta.  In my opinion, some of the best street art can be found in these spaces.  Again, people making the best of an eyesore.

Street Art Pt 2

I love seeing really large graffiti on buildings.  Sometimes it doesn't really mean anything (that I can figure out), but I am impressed by the sheer effort it took to get it done.

Walking through the Gothic near the Rambla and the Ancient Roman cemetery we saw this building completely covered in art.  It is likely an anarchist squatted building, or was until the government sealed the entrance.

A typical scene on the Rambla, but someone has painted "IDIOT" on the very top of the building, only visible through these trees.

This building is one of the ugliest I've seen in Barcelona, probably built in the 70's and has no character.  This is on the garage door to the building.

This is the left side of a pit.  A whole building was removed and this is what remains.  You can see the wall broken on the far left.  It's been sitting like this for as long as I can remember.

Street Art

In the big city I tend to walk around focused on the ground or the people around me, making sure not to trip or bump into someone.  I love it when I remember to look up and at my surroundings. I can't get enough of street art.  Truly there are some amazing pieces around Barcelona.  These are a few that I saw the other day that I loved.

I wanted to utilize the mirror in the art and take a picture of myself.  So, if you look really hard, you can see me, or at least the red strap of my backpack.
