When building fall into ruin or get abandoned, they usually end up getting squatted for a time. Once the neighborhood complains enough, the city gets involved and blocks off the physical entries to the buildings. In some cases, for historical reasons, the facade of the building stands while the building is gutted and hauled away. Here are some doors from Poblenou where the true entrance has been blocked, but the door still stands.

So much of the old architecture has been preserved in our neighborhood. It's amazing to see where people have tried to cover over the original foundation, but it somehow remains. Every door in our neighborhood is covered in graffiti like this one. The doors are considered private space, thus the responsibility of the owners. The walls are public space, so the city will clean them.

Puertas
Doors and doorways that date back to the 14th century. I'd never seen something so old in my life that was still in use. It's amazing to be in a place where the old is often still useful and not just abandoned to make way for the new.

Number 40
The colorful tiles in the entry and the blue door beckon one to enter the dark stairwell. What fantastic adventures await me in this mysterious corridor? In actuality, a person emerged carrying garbage shortly after I took this. Tracy really wanted me to take a picture of this because of the tiles. This one is for her.

The Door
Me encanta esta puerta. I can't get enough. I walk past it several times a day and it always catches my eye. There's something about the vibrancy of it, the life. Somewhere deep in my soul, it resonates. I wish this door was my door.
